About the Book and Audience

Marine biofouling on surfaces is a global problem with detrimental effects. Some of the common issues associated with biofouling include higher fuel consumption for marine vessels, corrosion, emission of greenhouse gases, etc. Coatings represent one of the important strategies to achieve protection against biofouling and its effects due to the incorporation of novel materials as matrices. In this respect, the book aims to present many functional marine coatings systems developed in the recent years to achieve effective protection against biofouling. Recently, membrane technology has also gained interest because of simple and environmentally friendly approach for seawater treatment. Thus, the book also focuses on the recent developments gained in this area. The book is a valuable reference for polymer, chemical, biochemical and materials engineers, as well as practicing scientists and researchers in both academia and industry. It is also a useful resource for postgraduate university students in chemical, polymer and materials disciplines, along with interdisciplinary streams.

About the Editor

Dr. Vikas Mittal worked as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at The Petroleum Institute (now part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology), Abu Dhabi, UAE. Before, he was employed at BASF, Germany as polymer engineer and at SunChemical, UK as materials scientist. Dr. Mittal received his PhD degree in 2006 from Department of Materials and Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. He has been an active researcher in the field of polymer nanotechnology and its applications in various streams. He has published more than 125 peer reviewed papers on these subjects, along with 35 edited and authored books. His research accomplishments have also resulted in many patents. In addition, he has published many book chapters and has also delivered numerous keynote and invited lectures at the international conferences.
