About the Book and Audience

Advancements in polymer science have led to the development of functional polymeric materials with optimal property profiles and superior commercial relevance. As a result, more and more polymeric materials are gradually replacing glass and metals in a wide variety of applications. In fact, almost all domains of materials have been significantly influenced by the polymers. The development of polymeric hybrids by incorporating a large number of organic and inorganic phases leads to the further enhancement of their application spectrum. In this respect, the current book presents a variety of functional polymeric systems developed in the recent past with a potential of advanced applications in diverse areas. The book is a valuable reference for polymer, chemical and materials engineers, as well as practicing scientists and researchers in both academia and industry. It is also a useful resource for postgraduate university students in chemical, polymer and materials disciplines, along with interdisciplinary streams.

About the Editor

Dr. Vikas Mittal worked as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at The Petroleum Institute (now part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology), Abu Dhabi, UAE. Before, he was employed at BASF, Germany as polymer engineer and at SunChemical, UK as materials scientist. Dr. Mittal received his PhD degree in 2006 from Department of Materials and Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. He has been an active researcher in the field of polymer nanotechnology and its applications in various streams. He has published more than 125 peer reviewed papers on these subjects, along with 35 edited and authored books. His research accomplishments have also resulted in many patents. In addition, he has published many book chapters and has also delivered numerous keynote and invited lectures at the international conferences.
