About the Book and Audience
Phase change materials (PCMs) can store and release heat, while they are changing phase. They allow relatively large amount of energy to be stored in comparatively small volumes. Due to their attractive and controllable properties, they are useful in many applications. For instance, PCMs have been used as smart building materials, energy storage devices, heat recovering agents, etc. By virtue of their properties, these materials have also found applications in smart textiles and aerospace industry. This book aims to review the synthesis and properties of a variety of functional organic and inorganic phase change material systems developed in the recent years for advanced applications. The book is a valuable reference text for chemical, materials and polymer engineers, as well as practicing scientists and researchers in both academia and industry. It is also a useful resource for postgraduate university students in chemical, materials and polymer engineering disciplines, along with interdisciplinary streams.
About the Editor
Dr. Vikas Mittal worked as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at The Petroleum Institute (now part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology), Abu Dhabi, UAE. Before, he was employed at BASF, Germany as polymer engineer and at SunChemical, UK as materials scientist. Dr. Mittal received his PhD degree in 2006 from Department of Materials and Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. He has been an active researcher in the field of polymer nanotechnology and its applications in various streams. He has published more than 125 peer reviewed papers on these subjects, along with 35 edited and authored books. His research accomplishments have also resulted in many patents. In addition, he has published many book chapters and has also delivered numerous keynote and invited lectures at the international conferences.
