The social and economic development can be achieved in its true sense when women’s empowerment would find equal importance to the process of development. Empowering the women means creating such an environment in which they can take independent decisions for their personal development and the development of society in general. This edited volume brings together the contemporary issues, challenges and concerns related to women empowerment. The various challenges faced by the women community in modern world have been highlighted specifically in different chapters.

Issues relating to social dynamics and associated challenges are part of the course curriculum of most of the social and law programmes around the world. This book is an indispensable text for anyone interested in women empowerment and gender equality as it highlights the policies and approaches to achieve these objectives. About the Editors

Prof. (Dr.) Mrinal Raste is the former Vice Chancellor of SIEC University. He also held senior positions at Amity University Mumbai, Alliance University, U.P.E.S. University, K.I.I.T. University, Symbiosis Society’s Law College Pune, University of Pune and many other prominent institutions in India. During the tenure of Prof. Raste, Symbiosis received its national ranking. He also participated at the prestigious Vienna conference as an observer. He was also elevated to the Board of Governors of the International Jurist Organisation as an academician from India. He has attended and arranged many international and national seminars and workshops in different institutions in India and abroad, besides many high quality publications to his credit.

Bhupal Bhattacharya is presently associated with Banasthali Vidyapith in the capacity of Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, Jamnalal Bajaj School of Legal Studies. He has more than 9 years of teaching experience in different institutions including NIT Durgapur, Amity University Mumbai, Sikkim Manipal University, etc., along with 4 years of industrial experience. He has completed his B.com (Hons.), LL.M, MSW and has submitted his Ph.D. thesis for the award. He has previously edited two books and in Scopus indexed international journals.

Sarmistha Bhattacharya is an Assistant Professor at Department of Social Work, Law College Durgapur, India. She has around 5 years of teaching and administrative experience, besides 3 years of Industrial experience. She has published many national and international papers in prominent journals and edited volumes. She has obtained her BA, LL.B., MSW and is presently pursuing her Ph.D. from NIT Durgapur.
